The quest for continuous movement

When I was young the world seemed to stand still. The same ideas and ideologies were recycled over and over; I felt like I was trapped in a hamster wheel. Was there a place somewhere out there that offered another perspective?

I began a journey. At first I thought that I would only go forward if I moved physically and do so in foreign lands, but I soon realized that my whole life had become a journey and that the movement remained constant and continuous, even if I was in the same place. And even, if this place was my own home.

Michael from England (1968) and I, Nadine from Switzerland (1971), fell in love in India in 1996. After a mere two hours of knowing each other, Michael made his wedding proposal with the words “Why wait when you know you met the right woman?”. We got married five months later in Winchester, England.

Since then we have tried our best to expand our horizons, open our hearts and remain on the move.

Our son Desmond was born in 2000 in Switzerland and his brother Lenny was followed 20 months later (2002). Together we are the Hudson Family. One thing was clear from the start: we wanted to show our children the world firsthand.

Since 1996 we have journeyed far afield, often on the roads of our wonderful planet, often on the roads leading inward to our souls.

1996 – 1997: 6 months backpacking in Nepal and India.
1998 – 2000: 24 months backpacking through Asia and Africa (until the 7th month of pregnancy).
2004: 1 month “test trip” in Morocco.
2005 – 2007: 23 months backpacking through the Middle East to Southeast Asia, through China on the Karakoram Highway to Pakistan and India, and returned to Switzerland through Mongolia and Russia.

2008 – Jan. 2011: we managed the Outside Inn hotel in South China.
2011: 8 months in the camper through the U.S.A. and Mexico.

Sorry, this short film of us in China is only in Swiss German…
